How to Fix Skype Disk I/O Error for Windows 10

Are you getting a disk I/O error message while trying to login to Skype on your Windows 10 systems? At such time, first of all, you should make sure that you’re using the updated version of Skype. If not, then try to download the latest Skype’s version. If you’re still getting the same issue after downloading the new release, then it’s time to fix the error. However, if you don’t have too much time to consider the instructions, you can call at the Skype phone number to get the instant help and hassle-free solutions.

To fix the disk I/O error message, follow up the steps given below.

There’re two possible solutions for the Disk I/O error. The first one is to remove or re-create your user folder, and the second one is to adjust the user permissions for the temporary files.

Solution #1: Delete and recreate your user folder:

  1. Close the Skype program. To do so, you just need to choose the ‘Quit’ option by right-clicking on the Skype icon in the taskbar. If you can’t see the icon, then you can also close it via the ‘Task Manager.
  2. Press the Windows + R keys all at once. In the Run window, input the %appdata%\Skype, and then click the ‘OK’ button.
  3. In the ‘File Explorer’ window that appears, locate the ‘Skype Name’ folder.
  4. Delete the folder, means that it will also erase your chat history. If you want to save it, then you can do that by syncing your chat folder to another location and then transferring them back later. However, you can lose your chat history during restoration.
  5. Restart your Skype program and then log in. The folder you removed earlier will be recreated. If you kept your chat history, then try to copy the files back to the folder using the similar name as the Skype name.

However, if the above steps didn’t solve the error message, you may have relocated your temporary files to a place outer your profile and are misplaced some required permissions. In such circumstances, you can try to follow up the steps given below.

  1. Close the Skype program, and then launch the ‘File Explorer’ window. Go to the PC icon and then locate the Temp folder.
  2. Click the ‘Temp’ folder, right side and choose the ‘Properties,’ and then click on the ‘Security’ tab.
  3. Click the ‘Edit’ button, and in the Permissions for Temp dialog box that appears, click ‘Add.’
  4. Check that the box ‘From this location’ displays your system name. If it doesn’t, click the ‘Locations,’ and choose your system name from the list. Click ‘OK.
  5. In the box that reveals, input the APPLICATION PACKAGES and then click the ‘Check Names’ option. It will underline the ‘ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES.’ Click ‘OK.’
  6. Click the ‘OK’ button to add the ‘ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES’ to the accounts list and access the Temp folder.
  7. Select the Full control, List folder contents, Read & Execute, Modify, Read and Write check boxes to grant complete control.
  8. Click the ‘OK’ button to close the ‘Permissions’ for the ‘Temp’ folder. Restart your Skype program and then sign in.
  9. However, if you’re still getting problems in signing into your Skype account due to the disk I/O error, call at the Skype contact number for further solutions.
